Tha-BEET Goes On

UCONN Huskies (#1 Seed)

Hasheem Thabeet #34
(ha-SHEEM tuh-BEET)

Junior

Center

7'3"/ 263lbs.

We all know this guy! The possible player of the year in Men's College Basketball. ESPN's constant coverage of the big man is nothing short of nauseating. The problem with this coverage is that they pronounce his name wrong. According to the pronunciation guide I found it is tuh-Beet not Tha-Beet. His name is definitely worthy to be included in the CSN Blog but the name appearing on his jersey and most news medias is wrong.

His given name at birth is Hashim Thabit Manka. But it is custom in his native country of Tanzania to drop the name of your father once he has died. But it doesn't end there we now see a different spelling of his name. Apparently, the American media outlets could not keep his name the same spelling and had to match it as closely with the pronunciation as possible so, hence we get Hasheem Thabeet.

Thabeet is most certainly a top five pick in this year's NBA draft. We here at the CSN Blog look forward to seeing Hashim at the next level where he can continue his development as an outstanding shot blocker and defender. With his progress still being fine tuned we know that Tha-Beet will go on!
